1. Music Generation's sizzling summer season!

  

 

Music Generation Louth: The Let's Sing Programme culminated in 4 hugely successful end-of-term cluster concerts throughout the county.  Songlines, a new collection of 10 children's songs was launched in the Oriel Centre, Dundalk.  An exciting selection of Summer Camps are underway. Read more here.

  

Music Generation Mayo: End of year celebration concerts were presented in all four of Mayo's tuition centres.  Mayo's range of summer camps has something for everyone aged 5-18 years, with Sing it Out Voice Camp and Rock Steady Band Camp still to come. Read more here.

 

Music Generation Sligo: Sligo's Music Fusion Programme funded under the new Partnership between Music Generation and The Arts Council got underway with workshops for young composers and performers in June.  This project will culminate in a concert during Fleadh Cheoil Sligo in the Hawk's Well Theatre on 10th August. Sligo's Summer Camps are in full swing. Read more here

 

Music Generation Cork City: Club Ceoil, Ballyphehane in association with MGCC presented a showcase event at the Cork School of Music.  Watch the video here. Summer camps in a variety of genres are on offer throughout July and August. Read more here.

 

Music Generation Laois:  Over 750 children and young people took part in Laois's end of year concerts including a spectacular Glee Club and School of Rock and Pop Summer Concert in the Dunamaise Arts Centre.  A variety of summer camps are underway. Read more here.

 

Music Generation Wicklow: Composer Elaine Agnew's work Mostly Me featuring primary school children from Wicklow received its premiere in June and Neil Martin's Vanished Lands performed by the young musicians from Music Under the Mountains, Hollywood and Club Cheol na Lochanna Blessington, alongside their tutors took place on 6th July.  Summer workshops are in full swing. Read more here.

Music Generation Limerick City: Limerick's young rappers joined forces with the Music Generation Cork City crew for Outdoor Gig at the Make A Move Festival.  The Music Creativity Programme catering for many musical genres is underway this summer and check a very exciting project launched on the 18th July. Read more here.

 

Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath: Following six fantastic end-of-term summer concerts, Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath presents Music Jam - a summer music programme where primary and post-primary students will have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments and musical genres! Read more here.

 

Music Generation Clare: A Trad Rock Summer Camp takes place in Ennis between August 11th and 15th. Twenty primary schools have already signed up for the Escalation singing programme commencing in September. Read more here.

 

Music Generation South Dublin: 520 children and young people participated in Music Generation South Dublin's first project, a programme of Band/Ensemble development, choral development and music technology in 5 primary schools and one secondary school. Read more here

2.  Limerick's Music Gen Express Sets its Wheels in Motion 


 

 

Music Generation Limerick City proudly launched The Music Gen Express Bus and Limerick Voices on Friday 18th July at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. Funded under the Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership Programme, the Limerick Voices project will work with groups of teenagers throughout 2014 and beyond helping them find their musical voices, write and record songs. The long term aim is to kick start a culture of song-writing throughout Limerick.  Read more here.

7. Music Generation's Research Fellow presents at International Conference

  

Music Generation Research Fellow Dr. Thomas Johnston is presenting at the International Society for Music Education's 14th International Community Music Activity Commission taking place in Salvador, Brazil. The theme of this year's ISME Conference, 'Listening to the Diversity of the World' is particularly resonant with the focus of Dr. Johnston's presentation entitled 'The Nature, Power, and Purpose of Critical Diversity:  Unveiling the Transformative Potential for Children and Young People of Music Generation'. 8. Music Network Announces their Autumn Season 2014

 

Music Network has unveiled its Autumn Season 2014 with an exceptional line-up of talented Irish and international musicians that will tour to nineteen towns and villages across fifteen counties. Plans are underway for Music Network to co-present music workshops, delivered by their touring musicians, with Music Generation Mayo, Music Generation Sligo, Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath and Donegal Music Education Partnership later this year. Read more here.
