1. Music Generation highlights from around the country!

  

 

Music Generation Louth: Music Generation Louth's Junior String and Playstrings Orchestras were prize winners at the recent Newry Feis and Louth's Young Musical Ambassadors are set to perform at an event in Dublin Castle this week.  Read more here.

  

Music Generation Mayo: The Music Generation Easter Band Camp in the Ballina Arts Centre with 21 Outs was a huge hit while the young musicians involved in the Kaleidoscope Big Band residency received a standing ovation for their performance on Friday 9th May at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar.  Read more here.

 

Music Generation Sligo: Over 30 young musicians took part in Music Generation Sligo's Easter Trad Camp which was a great success and details of Sligo's summer camps have just been announced. Read more here.

 

Music Generation Cork City: Check out Music Generation Cork City's fantastic new showreel coming soon and stay tuned for the Ballyphehane Traditional Orchestra concert on the 17th June. Read more here.

 

Music Generation Laois:  Some 70 young musicians from Music Generation Laois and Laois School of Music performed in a summer concert at the Dunamaise Arts Centre on 20th May.  Young harpists from Rath NS attended The Ark's production of 'Ten 14', the story of Brian Boru also at the Dunamaise, with music performed and composed by Clannad's Moya Brennan and harpist Cormac de Barra. Music Generation Wicklow: Composer George Higgs and young musicians from Arklow premiered their new composition 'Up with the Downbeat' on 9th May. A further three new composition projects are in development - to be premiered before the year end. Read more here.

 

Music Generation Carlow: A monthly Young Composers' Club has been established for 14-18 year olds and new Young Musicians' Bursary & Scholarship Schemes have recently launched.  A host of end-of-term concerts are underway for the Encore Choral Programme and for the very young participants of Little People Big Voices. Read more here.

 

Music Generation Limerick City: Music Generation Limerick City's Express Yourself Bus has rolled into town!  This converted double decker bus will contain a field studio, a performance space and a listening suite. Funded in partnership between MGLC and Limerick City of Culture, on-board workshops will be taking place throughout the city. Read more here.

 

Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath: As the training sessions for the Kodály practitioners come to an end for the year, Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath premičred its new docu-film about the Kodály Programme at the recent Early Years Seminar - see it here.

 

Music Generation Clare: Emer O'Flaherty has been announced as Music Development Officer with Music Generation Clare and the set-up phase for the programme is well underway.

3. Early Years Music Education Seminar: Beginning the National Conversation  
 
Early Years Music Education Seminar: Beginning the National Conversation presented by the Department of Education and Skills and Music Generation, took place on Thursday 15th May at the Clock Tower, Department of Education and Skills, in Dublin. The seminar provided a space for those involved in Early Years Music Education offered by Music Generation around Ireland to come together to find out and celebrate what is happening nationally. 4. Arts Council investment of €450,000
 

Music Generation and the Arts Council are delighted to officially announce a new three-year partnership programme which will see an investment of €450,000 in funding to support the work of professional musicians in a range of ambitious music education programmes. Read more here.

5. Links with Music Network

 

During their Music Network tour of Ireland earlier this month, Music Generation was delighted to host The Iona Connection intergenerational Musical Exhange workshops presented in association with Music Network and Age & Opportunity as part of the Bealtaine Festival.  Read more here.

6. BIG SING
 

Acclaimed U.S. Choral Conductor Dr. Doreen Rao led 400 children and young people from across Ireland in the inaugural Big Sing held on 6th April in the Mansion House, Dublin. It was the first time that Music Generation participants from across Ireland performed together on a national stage and the event marked the culmination of the Choral Music Education Programme, run in partnership with Association of Irish Choirs, the Choral Music Experience Institute and Local Music Education Partnerships. 7. AOIC Conference 2014: Limerick Sings

  

The Association of Irish Choirs is delighted to hold its first national choral conference in association with the Limerick Sings festival and generously supported by Limerick City of Culture 2014. Read more here
