1. A Snap Shot of Music Generation Activity Around the Country!

Louth: Music Generation Louth held an array of summer camps over the past couple of months.  Young people had the chance to try their hand at traditional, rock, harp and orchestral playing. A group of young song writers visited the John Lennon Bus at the National Concert Hall. See more here.


Mayo: From piano to percussion there was something for all aspiring young musicians during Music Generation Mayo's teenage summer camp programme.  An inspirational group of young musicians travelled to the National Concert Hall to board the John Lennon Bus.  See more here.

Sligo: A great mix of summer camps offered something for everyone this summer. From traditional to jazz, Music Generation Sligo had the whole county rocking! A video from the Young Composer Mentoring Programme was produced offering a taste of what's to come at the world premiere of the new work, Where never lark, nor even eagle flew, on 10th November, 2013 at the Hawks Well Theatre, Sligo. Cork City: Trad camp, Band camp, Technology and Summer Sing: Music Generation Cork City had it all this summer! The John Lennon Bus also paid a visit and check out what was produced!  See more here.

 

Laois:  The Dunamaise Theatre, Portlaoise was alive with the sounds from Music Generation Laois' Summer camps.  The John Lennon Bus rolled into town and a group of young musicians got the opportunity to compose, record and produce their own song.  See more here.

 

Wicklow:  Apart from a busy season of summer camps, Music Generation Wicklow had a recruitment drive adding 16 additional musicians to the now 32-strong team! An ambitious new commissions project is also getting underway.  Read more here
 

Carlow: Music Generation Carlow is officially up-and-running!  The musicians are hired and a fantastic induction day for tutors was held in August.  A full programme of classes is due to get underway. Read more here

 

Limerick City: Programmes for pre-school, primary and secondary schools are ready to rock! The Music Generation Limerick City Band has been formed and will be on the road visiting schools performing everything from blues to hip-hop.  Read more here.

 

Offaly/Westmeath:  Music Generation got a fantastic response to their recruitment drive over the summer.  The new tutors will be commencing training this weekend which is being run in association with DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. Read more here.

2. 10,000 children and young people set to access the Music Generation experience in 2013/14

  

As Music Generation celebrates reaching 10,000 children and young people and creating employment opportunities for 120 musicians nationally, the Partnerships are already busy getting their programmes up and running in preparation for the new school term. There's no chance of Music Generation being late for class!  Read more here.

John Lennon Educational Tour Bus
 

Young musicians from Music Generation Partnerships in Cork City, Laois, Louth and Mayo had an opportunity this summer to hop on board the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus.  The bus, which contains a fully equipped state-of-the-art music studio, completed a two week Irish tour before rolling into the grounds of the National Concert Hall in Dublin.  With the assistance of three on-board engineers, young aspiring musicians learned how to write, perform, record, and produce their own original songs and shoot a music video.

5. Music Generation Celebrates Culture Night

A host of diverse, free, cultural events will take place on Friday 20th September to mark Culture Night 2013.  Music Generation will also be playing its part with a number of exciting musical events throughout the country from the launch of a Traditional Programme in Music Generation Carlow to Lavender and Lullabies with Music Generation Cork City.

 

Culture Night is particularly special this year as it also marks the launch of Music Generation Limerick City in the Lime Tree theatre.  A full evening of entertainment is planned to mark the occasion including a Showcase of Youth Ensembles, the premiere of a short film, Limerick's Choir of Choirs and a ten minute tour of popular music by the Music Generation Limerick City Band.

6. Young Ambassadors - Amnesty International Ambassador of Conscience Award

 

On the 17th September, 2013 Amnesty International Ambassador of Conscience Award ceremony will take place in Dublin's Mansion House.  This is Amnesty International's most prestigious human rights award and the ceremony will be a celebration of music and art including live performances from several world renowned artists.  Music Generation has been invited to contribute to the entertainment on the night and Young Ambassadors, Aspiro, nominated by Carlow Music Education Partnership will join the line-up.

7. Chamber Music In Education Seminar with The Fidelio Trio 

The Fidelio Trio, artists-in-residence at the Music Department, St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, will present a 'taster' course on chamber music in education on Friday 20 September, 12:00-2:30pm.  Read more here.

Call for Expressions of Interest: Programme Manager Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership

Music Generation is inviting Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals with appropriate artistic and project management skills to oversee the design and delivery of a new three-year programme with Local Music Education Partnerships throughout Ireland, aimed at providing opportunities for the interaction of professional musicians with children and young people.

Music Network Seeks to Recruit a Development Programmes Manager
Reporting to the CEO, and working within a vibrant national music organisation, the successful applicant will assist Music Network on the delivery of its new strategy (2013-15), positioning audience development at the heart of its work through provision of support and development opportunities to key stakeholder constituencies

The Music Department of St Patrick's College Drumcondra invites applications for a PhD scholarship to be awarded for doctoral research relating to the field of performance music education in Ireland with particular relevance to the national performance music education programme, Music Generation.

9. News from Music Network 

 

Music Network's Autumn 2013 Touring Season gets underway this month providing a fantastic opportunity to hear the best in international jazz, chamber and traditional music in a range of great venues across Ireland.   For full details read more here

 

Coinciding with a visit to Cork city of jazz quintet Thought-Fox for a performance at Triskel Arts Centre on 15th September (with special guest Julian Siegel) members of the band will be facilitating workshops with Music Generation Cork participants in Terence McSwiney Community College, Knocknaheeny, Cork City on 16th September.  The three musicians from Bellows, Bridge and Bow will be running workshops for fiddle, uileann pipes and concertina on the 16th of September at Emo National School, Laois,

presented by Music Generation Laois in partnership with Music Network and Laois County Council Arts Office. Read more here.
