2. A Snap Shot of Music Generation Activity Around the Country! 

  

Louth: Music Generation Louth's Let's Sing Programme culminated in a number of hugely successful end-of-term cluster concerts throughout the county. The Junior String Orchestra performed at the Society for Music Education in Ireland AGM in Dundalk and an exciting selection of Summer Camps are underway.  Read more here.

Mayo: Participants of Music Generation Mayo's Traditional Music Residency, Gealóga, are busy with a series of events.  Having performed at the final Department of Education & Skills EU Presidency event on the 13th June they participated in Love:Live Music 2013 on the 21st June and further events are planned for later this month. Music Generation Mayo's Ukulele Squad performed at Féile Ukulele on the 6th July.  A Teenage Summer Camp Programme gets underway in July.  Read more here.

Sligo: A host of Discovering Music programmes brought the end of the school year to a great finale. Music Generation Sligo has a musical mix of great summer camps throughout the summer season. Read more here.

Cork City: Music Generation Cork City released the fantastic Music Generation Trad Rap for Love:Live Music 2013.

Laois: Music Generation Laois presented a variety of end of year concerts including a spectacular Glee! And Friends concert in the Dunamaise and a Music Box concert to mark Love:Live Music 2013. Summer camps are in full swing. Read more here.

Wicklow: Music Generation Wicklow presented a series of concerts in June, the culmination of the Schools' Programme. With summer camp season up and running, a host of activity is underway including rock schools, tradition Irish and classical strings programmes. Read more here.

6. Love:Live Music 2013

love:live music/National Music day, co-ordinated by Music Network, took place on Friday June 21st, and was once again a resounding success. Two hundred and eighty-eight live music events of all descriptions took place in twenty-nine counties across the land, all of which were free.

There was lots of Music Generation activity on the day from schools concerts in Wicklow, a Music Box concert in Portlaoise, a whistle-stop tour of Mayo by traditional ensemble, Gealóga, lunchtime jazz in Sligo, a Let's Sing Concert in Drogheda and the launch of Music Generation Cork's Trad Rap video.

The Coca-Cola Thank You Fund 2013 is awarding €125,000 to not-for-profit voluntary and charitable organisations operating within communities throughout the island of Ireland.  They are looking for organisations that wish to develop a new innovative project or initiative that encourages communities to lead more balanced, healthy and active lifestyles.  The overall winning organisation will receive a grant of €25,000 and a further ten organisations selected will each receive a grant of €10,000.  Deadline for applications is the 19th July at 5pm.  Applications will only be accepted online via this form

8. Orchestral Summer Camps
 

Ceol na Mara Summer School for Strings

The Ceol na Mara Festival is taking place between the 28th July to 2nd August, 2013 in the Connemara West Centre, Letterfrack and other locations on the Renvyle Peninsula.  Now in its sixth consecutive year, it is a family friendly course suitable for string players of all ages and levels including adults. The classes involve classical and traditional music as well as mixing in some elements of drama, song and music appreciation.  Read more here.

 

OURchestra Summer Camp

This year's OURchestra Summer Camp will take place from August 12th - 16th in the town of Esker, Co. Galway. It's an orchestral programme for players ages 12-17 years of age of grade 3-8 standard. The course involves orchestral playing, chamber music, choir singing, improvisation, juggling, variety shows and will end in a final public concert.
