1. An Taoiseach Enda Kenny launches the Music Generation Library Resource and Community Forum Instrument Bank

 

Speaking at the event at Mayo County Library, Castlebar on Monday April 22nd An Taoiseach said: "Learning to appreciate music is not only a skill but a great gift to a young person. Like reading and writing, it is an ability they will carry with them for the rest of their lives."

2. A Snap Shot of Music Generation Activity Around the Country! 

  

Louth: Music Generation Louth's Junior Orchestra and tutors performed in Beaulieu House & Gardens on Monday, 6th May, as part of the Drogheda Arts Festival.   Music Generation Louth's singing groups in Dundalk and Bush will be performing in OTC's new production of Carmen at an Taín, Dundalk on Thursday 16 May. Read more here.

Mayo: Music Generation Mayo is establishing a Youth Music Hub for young people aged 13-18yrs at the Ballina Arts Centre and are hosting a Youth Music Showcase event to launch it on Wed May 22nd at 7pm in the Arts Centre. Read more here.

Sligo: Music Generation Sligo's Young Composers continue to work with composer Brian Irvine on an exciting new commission in a series of workshops on 7th and 8th of May. Read more here.

Cork City: Music Generation Cork City commences a pilot scheme for children living in HSE residential settings.  Read more here.

Laois: Music Generation Laois will be holding a two day celebratory choral event marking the culimination of the primary schools choral project on May 13th and 14th.  Glee clubs are in full swing. Read more here.

Wicklow: Music Generation Wicklow's schools programmes will present a series of performances as part of the Wicklow Arts Festival on May 24th at Aughrim's The Gathering event on June 28th.  Read more here.

Choirs Can: New Resource of Irish Songs for Choirs
 
Soprano Deirdre Moynihan has launched a new venture to promote choral singing. Choirs Can, an online resource of Irish songs arranged for choir, is aimed at secondary school and non-professional choirs.  The website currently includes eight 'songpacks', including arrangements of the songs Óró Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile and Bríd Óg Ní Mháille.  All of the materials on the Choirs Can website is available for free. 5. The Ark: one-day composition course for primary school teachers 

Presented as part of Lights, Camera, Action! a season of music-making inspired by film, Sat 11 May at 10.30am-3.30pm.  Read more here.
6. IAYO Conducting Course 2013

 

Conducting workshops for youth orchestra conductors will be held at the Royal Irish Academy of Music to run alongside their Summer Orchestra Academy. Director: Robert Houlihan, Monday 8 - Friday 12 July 2013. Read more here.

7. RIAM: Diploma in Community and Group Music Teaching 
 
Following a very successful first year of the programme, the Royal Irish Academy of Music is accepting applications for their Diploma in Community and Group Music Teaching which will run again from September.  Read more here.

8. Arts Council accepting applications for Deis award for Traditional Arts 
 
The Arts Council's Deis award provides support for traditional arts projects, or projects involving collaboration between traditional arts and other artforms. Deis supports one-off or short-term projects only. Closing date Thursday 6 June 2013. Read more here.

9.  Arts Council: Procurement of Music Adviser
 
The Arts Council wishes to procure the services of a Music Adviser to meet the needs of the organisation both from a quality and service delivery perspective. The successful tenderer will be an experienced music practitioner with the expertise and experience required to work with the Arts Council's staff by assisting in the appraisal and assessment of funding applications and providing critical advice on artistic work. 10. RTÉ announces tendering process for appointment of String Quartet

RTÉ is seeking to appoint a String Quartet for a three year term beginning in Quarter 1, 2014. In line with RTÉ policy, a public tendering process has been put in place and it is hoped that the String Quartet contract will be awarded in August 2013.  Read more here.
