As we contemplate the start of a new Christian year next Sunday-- with the beginning of Advent-- I want to tell you about how we spent last Sunday.
The last Sunday of the Christian year is, you might recall, Christ the King Sunday, a time where the focus is on the sovereignty of Christ-- His rule and reign. We had been taking a journey through the Book of Hebrews on our way to Christ the King Sunday, looking for titles and attributes of our High Priest, Son, Heir, and King.
So, as we finally arrived at the big day, we had plenty of art (and Hebrew dance, too) to festoon the occasion. Three of our resident artists worked on their interpretations of "Christ the King" during the service, and all of us (with some able guidance by Christy Fickenscher) contributed to a beautiful mural depicting heavenly worship of our Sovereign Lord.
At the top, right, you see Kevin Payton's work, and at the left, just above, is a beautiful icon by Sonia Flood. Just below is the mural that many of us contributed to, with Darlene Monroe's fiery throne in the center. It was a great day!

This coming Sunday is the first one in the Season of Advent-- the beginning of the Season of Light.
As we embark on a new journey, a new Christian year, let me encourage you to begin it with worship and join us next Sunday morning. And don't forget: Our annual service of Advent Lessons and Carols is next Sunday night at 6 PM.
Looking forward to starting a new Christian year with you!
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel...
