Won't You Join Us? | |
|
|
Greetings!
Won't you join us? We're planning another beautiful, simple Advent service of lessons and carols-- an evening of Scripture readings, Advent songs, words from the Church Fathers, and some sacred art. Mark your calendars for Sunday night, December 2, at 6 PM. The location is the Carmichael Chapel, our regular Sunday morning worship venue.
Truly, it's one of my most favorite worship services of the whole year. And it's a truly unique one, too. I'm unaware of anything like it in our city and think of it as a gift to the community.
You may already know that Advent is a season of preparation-- of getting ready. But the season is just as much about Christ's future coming again as it is about His arrival long ago. One helpful item: You might like to print out a copy of our Advent devotional booklet for 2012. It has a few words about the season, plus a supplemental section that describes some Chrismon ornament symbols.
So, hoping you'll join us on Sunday night, December 2, at 6 PM. It will be a beautiful way to begin the Season of Light and prepare for Christmas.
Already looking forward to Advent,
Pastor Chris

PS: For your planning and inviting: Mark your calendars for our annual Christmas Eve service on Monday night, December 24, at 5 PM. It's going to be a lovely evening of carols, candlelight, and communion. |

An Ancient-Future Quote to Note
Stand Tall...
How can we receive grace? By doing what pleases God and obeying Him in everything. In great households, the servants who disregard their own interests and zealously and promptly promote their masters' interests are favored. They serve not out of compulsion but from their own affection and good character. They order everything well, don't occupy themselves with private concerns, and don't care for their own interest. But they consider their master's concerns their own when they are in full view and when they are engaged in the house.... If the world's favored servants prefer their master's interests to their own, and, in so doing, actually elevate their own interest, such devotion should also characterize servants of God. He wills this Himself. Despise each concern and ding to the kingdom of heaven. Dwell there, not here. Stand tall there, not here. If you stand tall, even the demons will fear you. If your dependence is on worldly wealth, however, they will scorn you along with other people.... If you despise riches, you will be radiant in the house of the King. --Chrysostom
