Our Portrait is Growing

So also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest...

Greetings!

Our portrait of the Ultimate King, our survey of Hebrews in the weeks leading up to Christ the King Sunday, is growing-- we're revealing more each week about our King Jesus.

This Sunday, we come to a passage that contrasts the Old order of things-- the Old Covenant with its human priests-- with the New, where Jesus Himself is a priest.

And not just any priest, but one appointed by God, who said of Him:

"You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek."

As you look at the Scriptures for this Sunday (next column) concentrate especially on the passage in Hebrews. And one more thing: Take a closer look at this mysterious character known as Melchizedek and do a bit of study-- see what you can find out about him.

How is Jesus like Melchizedek? How does He surpass him?

Looking forward to worshiping with you on Sunday,

Little quiz for you: The two sides of Jesus' face are not symmetrical-- not alike in size or shape. Do you suppose that's on purpose? Why?
