The Longest Night of the Year!
The seasonal significance of the Winter Solstice is in the reversal of the gradual lengthening of nights and shortening of days. It is the shortest day and longest night. There are two winter solstices: winter in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern hemisphere. Remember that the winter solstice here is the summer solstice there. Soon it will no longer be dark when you leave for school and dark when you return home!
