The sixth graders surprised Nick Thacher after their play on Friday by holding up words to describe him to mimic his tradition of sharing new words at every play and to honor him on the occasion of his last DCD play, the final one of the school year. |
Sixth Grade Play
The sixth grade entertained the school in the final play of the year. Characters from fairy tale books caused chaos when they invaded the human world, and a group of school children had to think up a clever plan to return them to their books. The sixth graders enjoyed bringing this exciting story to life.

Thank you, volunteers! The DCD 65th Groovy Fair was a great success! Though the weather was not what was hoped for, an inside fair can work really well at DCD, and happy children can make a day wonderful! Many will agree that the Cake Walk was a highlight of this year's Fair! Thank you to all the parents, faculty, staff, and students who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare for the day's events and volunteered on the day of the Fair, especially co-chairs Sharon Perkins Allen and Deija Nevins. Lawn Signs If you took a lawn sign, thanks for advertising the Fair. Please return it to the box in the front hall so it can be used next year.

Lise Houck
One of our talented art teachers, Lisa Houck, has produced a colorful board book for toddlers and young children, Flowers Grow All in a Row(Pomegranate Kids).
The rhyming text compliments the bright illustrations that are made from white-line woodcuts. Working in this method is one of Lisa's specialties, and she teaches it to our middle school students, as well as to adults at different venues.
With traditional woodblocks, the artist cuts away the area around the drawing, and that cut away area becomes negative and does not accept the
paint or ink. In white-line woodcutting, the outline of the design is cut or grooved which leaves a white line between the designs that accept the color. Flowers Grow All in a Row is a counting book illustrated with whimsical flowers.
