Third Grade Play
The third grade students traveled back to Colonial times this week in their class play. In their play, a group of students find a magic book in the library that transports them back in time where they have to learn about Colonial trades in order to return to their time.
Family Bingo!
You could be a winner at this fun family event. Please join us this Saturday, January 30, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Rand Gym. Pizza, bingo and prizes! Walk-ins are welcome - you can pay at the door! Nothing But Nets
On Friday, February 5, from 12:30 to 1:45, middle school students will hold a fundraiser shoot-a-thon in the Primary Gym for Nothing But Nets, an organization that purchases mosquito netting to reduce the transmission of malaria to children in Africa. Students in grades 3-5 are invited to participate. Click here for the sign-up form. For more information, contact Rick Edie.
Parent-to-Parent Event for Primary and Lower School
Parents are invited to an open discussion of their child's journey through Primary and Lower School at DCD. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 9, at 7:00 p.m. at Herrick House. This is an informal gathering where you will hear from experienced parents about what to expect as your child progresses from one grade to the next. There will also be plenty of time for questions. Your invitation will arrive via Paperless Post soon!

Megan McCarthy
There are some authors who have the gift for entertaining their readers while they are educating them. That describes Meghan McCarthy, an author and illustrator of numerous non-fiction books for children.

 One of McCarthy's latest books is Earmuffs for Everyone: How Chester Greenwood Became Known as the Inventor of Earmuffs (Simon & Schuster, 2015). She describes the way people protected their ears from the cold throughout history. Along the way, the author infuses her story with other facts about inventors and inventions, including the work of Thomas Edison.
