Seventh Grade Play

Seventh graders entertained the school with their comical take on a murder mystery play. A group of friends gather in an old country house to welcome the French ambassador for a party. However, things go horribly wrong when one of the guests ends up dead. Just when they decide to cover up the crime, the police arrive. The thirty actors did a stellar job learning countless lines and memorizing the very complex staging. Click here to view scenes from the play.

DCD students and families, faculty, and alumni and friends are invited to show their DCD pride and support varsity field hockey at Friday Night Lights at Fay School in Southborough on Friday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. The team is looking for another win to make it an undefeated season! Thanksgiving Basket Drive
DCD will be conducting its annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive over the next week. Items for the baskets (except for pies) are due by Friday, November 20.
Parent to Parent
Tuesday, December 1, 2015,
7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Herrick House

Parent to Parent provides DCD parents an opportunity to come together to openly discuss topics of interest. This session will focus on the middle school experience. More details will be available next week.
Gently Used Blue Blazer and Boys' Shoe Exchange
Boys are required to wear a blue blazer, dress shoes, and a tie for the Thanksgiving and Holiday assemblies. If your child needs a blue blazer or dress shoes, you may find just what you're looking for in the closet of the Emmons Lobby (next to Mr. Thacher's office). Blazers and shoes may be taken or exchanged for use by DCD students and may also be donated by placing them in this closet at any time throughout the school year. You do not need to donate one to take one, but it does help with inventory.
Show Your School Pride! Get Your DCD Gear Online
With the holidays fast approaching, be sure to check out the DCD School Store online and place your orders today! Shipments will be made directly from Amerasport and arrive at your home within 14-21 days. There is a wide selection of activewear, outerwear, and gift items available for purchase. Click here to view all the DCD branded items for sale.
Use Scrip for your holiday shopping and support DCD!
Scrip are gift cards, including e-cards, to major stores that give a rebate from each gift card purchase back to DCD. With cards from more than 300 of the country's biggest brands, including Gap, Shaw's, Home Depot, and Whole Foods, you can shop at your favorite stores, and DCD earns money with each purchase. The deadline for submitting scrip orders in time for holiday giving is December 14.
DCD Annual Fund 2015-16
As a parent of a current DCD student, you might receive a call in the next few weeks from a fellow parent asking you to join them in supporting the 2015-16 Annual Fund. Last year, 97% of current DCD parents made an Annual Fund gift to the school. Contact Ashley Linell, 781-329-0850, ext. 2562, or alinell@dcds.net, for more information. Kids are sure to stay healthy this winter with such an abundant array of fruit served at both lunch and snack at DCD, including several types of apples, some locally grown, as well as bananas, oranges, clementines, grapes, cantalope, strawberries, peaches, plums, grapefruit, and locally grown pears. Fruit provides lots of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and water and not only helps in maintaining a healthy body weight, but also protects against certain cancers, heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and even bone health.

Read On! The Library Blog
A Thanksgiving Favorite
While there are a plethora of new books on the market every season, it's always a pleasure to introduce some of my favorite older titles to children. One series of picture books that I'm fond of is the Cranberry Series by Wende and Harry Devlin. Wende wrote the stories that she may have first shared with her own seven children. While Wende was a gifted painter, she began to collaborate with her husband, Harry, also a commercial artist. Harry began to illustrate the sweet tales that Wende wrote. Together, they created the Old Black Witch Series and the Cranberry Series.
