Gently Used Blue Blazer and Boys' Shoe Exchange
Boys are required to wear a blue blazer, dress shoes, and a tie for the Thanksgiving and Holiday assemblies. If your child needs a blue blazer or dress shoes, you may find just what you're looking for in the closet of the Emmons Lobby (next to Mr. Thacher's office). Blazers and shoes may be taken or exchanged for use by DCD students and may also be donated by placing them in this closet at any time throughout the school year. You do not need to donate one to take one, but it does help with inventory.

Jack's Kitchen
Nothing Is Wasted in DCD's Kitchen!
Did you know DCD adds hundreds of pounds of compost to our school gardens? The kitchen saves much of of its vegetable and fruit waste and adds it to our compost bin. The staff and students also do their part every day by using the blue bucket for uneaten vegetables and fruit leftover from lunch. Once all these are added to the compost bin, the result is a nice dark soil that is rich in nutrients for growing more vegetables.

Rediscovering Harry Potter
Harry Potter fans will be thrilled with the new, illustrated version of J.K. Rowling's first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Scholastic). Jim Kay, the illustrator, was honored in 2012 with the Kate Greenaway Medal. This award is given to an artist in Great Britain whose illustrations in a book for young people demonstrate outstanding merit. Kay has produced dozen's of colorful illustrations to compliment Rowling's popular tale.

The publisher, Arthur A. Levine Books, an imprint of Scholastic, should be commended for this project. Undoubtedly, they will make money on this edition, but the quality of the book is remarkable.
