It's Admissions Season! There are lots of ways you can help us promote DCD as a wonderful place for children to learn and grow.
Welcome visitors to campus. Prospective families have already begun visiting campus, and it will be getting even busier as the admissions season really kicks into gear. Please remember to leave the admissions parking spaces open for visitors to use.
Post a sign on your lawn. Help us spread the word about our November 1 Open House. We will be giving out signs during carpool pick-up lines on Tuesday (both dismissal times). Contact Emilie Liebhoff if you would like to post a sign and neither of these times is convenient for you to pick one up.
Spread the Word. In addition to the Admissions Open House on November 1, we will be hosting two Classroom Observation days, on October 15 and November 20. Help us spread the word about these events to friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Click here for a "shareable" pdf containing live links to contact admissions and fill out the registration form on our website.

Fourth Grade Play Kicks Off Drama Season The fourth graders kicked off the drama season with an exciting story about King Arthur. In their play, students and teachers travelled back in time to King Arthur's court in the hope of finding his famous sword Exaclibur. The fourth graders worked hard to perfect their lines and write their own songs in just fifteen days.

Scrip and Amazon Smile: Two ways to give to DCD while you shop! Scrip are gift cards, including e-cards, to major stores that give a rebate from each gift card purchase back to DCD. With cards from more than 300 of the country's biggest brands, including Gap, Shaw's, Home Depot, and Whole Foods, you can shop at your favorite stores, and DCD earns money with each purchase.
AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support DCD every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you'll find the exact same low prices, vast selection, and convenient shopping experience as you do on Amazon.com, with the added bonus that the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price from your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to DCD.

November 7th Planning "Retreat" Postponed until Spring The previously announced community meeting open to parents, alumni, and teachers scheduled for the morning of Saturday, November 7, has been postponed until later in the year. ...Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it, and, burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge.
-Lewis Carroll
I felt just like Alice this week, burning with curiosity, as I fell down the rabbit hole and attended events celebrating the 150 anniversary of the publication of Lewis Carroll's masterpiece, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
There is a small exhibit at Butler Library at Columbia University in their rare book room that celebrates the 1932 visit of Alice Pleasance (Liddell) Hargreaves to New York City. Alice was the author's child friend who inspired the creation of the story. Charles Dodgson, whose pen name was Lewis Carroll, began the tale when he and a friend, Reverend Robinson Duckworth, took Alice and her two sisters out for an afternoon of rowing and sharing a picnic. Alice's 1932 visit was part of a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Dodgson's birth. The Columbia exhibit commemorates the degree given to Alice:
the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, in recognition of the place which your name occupies in English literature and of the remarkable contributions to that literature by Lewis Carroll to which your personality gave rise. -Dr. Murray Butler, President of Columbia

Panelists:
Dr. Rob Evans, Executive Director of The Human Relations Service
Dr. Belle Liang, Associate Professor of Counseling, and Developmental and Educational Psychology in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College
Dr. Layli Maparyan, Executive Director, Wellesley Centers for Women
