Thank You! Thank you to all the volunteers, especially our talented and hard-working committee, who helped make School Daze such a success last Friday night. The Primary Gym was transformed, and everyone in attendance had a great time bidding, eating, dancing, and socializing. More than $20,000 was raised to support faculty professional development, making it possible for faculty to take advantage of a range of opportunities. These include all-day workshops for the entire faculty, attendance at conferences, such as NAIS and CASE, training in such programs as Open Circle and Responsive Classroom, and underwriting the pursuit of advanced degrees and study. Massachusetts Book Awards Celebrated in the Library
| Four students read all twenty-five books, left to right, Patrick Berg, Christiane Fallon-Bacardi, Gunner Peterson, and Carly Ward. Congratulations! | Twenty-two of our Fourth and Fifth Graders celebrated reading at this week's Massachusetts Children's Book Award voting party. In order to participate in this voluntary reading incentive, our requirement for the children was that they had to read at least six of the nominated books. The more books the children read, the better they were able to discuss the strength of the plots of the books. Four children read all twenty-five titles on the list! There was a spirited discussion of the merits of many of the titles.

Discussing Culture and Diversity Please join us for an informal evening on Thursday, April 16, when we will come together as a community to continue our discussions about diversity at DCD, focusing on the future. How do we think about diversity as the school embarks upon a strategic planning process and a Head of School Search? Looking ahead 10 years, how will we describe our DCD community in terms of diversity? These are important questions, and we would love to share in the gift of your perspective and experience.

Anna, Jose', and Henry team up to try to find this important piece of Americana. When they are snowed in at the D.C. airport, they begin a quest that opens their eyes to more than they expected. The children also voted for "honor books." These were other books that also received top votes or might have been a second favorite book. DCD's honor books are The Familiars, Liar and Spy, and The Son of Neptune. ...Read On
