New Playground Dedicated to Mary Ellen Maloney

It's official. The rain couldn't dampen the spirits of all those gathered for the special ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 30 to celebrate the dedication of DCD's new playground to Mary Ellen Maloney. Read more... 

Admissions Season Begins
The Admissions Office is hosting three open house events this fall on October 19, November 6, and November 21. Click here for the electronic version of our flyer to share with friends, neighbors or colleagues via email or Facebook. Hard copies will be available in the Admissions office for posting in locations around your town. We are also looking for families to post lawn signs announcing the open house dates. Please contact Deb White in Admissions.
EDP Update
After-school tennis lessons with Vivi Duke will take place in the Primary Gym (not the Rand Gym as originally announced). Classes, which begin October 7, are full.

The Chess Wizards program begins on October 9 in Jenny Chamberlin's classroom #314 on the third floor of the Middle School. Contact

Gift Wrap Fundraiser
DCD's annual gift wrap fundraiser runs through October 14. Please share the catalog with family, friends, and neighbors, or ask out-of-town relatives and friends to place their order online at innisbrook.com. Our school number is 101457, and you can designate the student who should receive credit. Contact 877-525-5608, or customerservice@innisbrook.com.  
Save the Date for Spooktacular Fun!
DCD's Spooktacular Halloween Party is Saturday, October 25, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Students in Pre-K through Grade 5 are invited to park their brooms and head to the Primary "Goo" Gym. The cost is $5 per child, $20 max per family. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes will be held on Tuesday, October 28, rain or shine. Please return the entire, undamaged portrait package to Ms. Laneau before Friday, October 24. You may keep the class photo. Retake packages will be distributed approximately three to five weeks after the retake.

Parents, Your Family Registration Form, Please!
Please, if you haven't already done so, fill out and return your family registration form  as soon as possible. We refer to the forms when sending invitations to Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day at DCD. You can fill it out online and return the completed form by e-mail to Danise Cavallaro or fill it out by hand and mail it to her attention at DCD.

Edgar Allan Poe Celebrated in Boston
On Saturday, October 4, at 1:00 p.m. a 90-minute walking tour will explore  Edgar Allan Poe's connections to Boston, and on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. there will be an unveiling and dedication of a Poe statue at the intersection of Boylson Street and Charles Street South. The events are free and open to the public but space is limited. Details can be found online at bostonpoe.org/events.

Sports Concussion Expert to Speak Next Week
The PIN organization is hosting a talk on Wednesday, October 8, at Oak Meadow School in Littleton, by guest speaker Dr. Robert Cantu, one of the world's foremost authorities on concussions and brain trauma in sports. His latest book, Concussions and Our Kids: America's Leading Expert on How to Protect Young Athletes and Keep Sports Safe, will be featured in his presentation. All parents and faculty of PIN member schools are invited. Coffee and conversation begin at 9:15 a.m. followed by the presentation at 9:40 a.m.

Kids' Yogathon
Hilary Glynn is organizing a team for the Yoga Reaches Out Kids' Yogathon on November 9 to benefit Camp Starfish, a residential camp program providing a 1:1 staff-to-camper ratio for children with emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities.
