June 2014 Newsletter/Issue 8

Dear Fellow DCD Alumni,

As the proverb says, "every end is a new beginning." Now that DCD's 111th year has come to a close, before our thoughts turn to summer, it's a good time to reflect on the events of the past year and to start thinking about plans for next year.

First of all, I want to thank the Alumni Council for all their hard work and dedication. Because of you, we have had another amazing year of celebrating our former students and helping them to reconnect with DCD and their classmates. From rallying friends during the February Challenge to honoring our 2014 Alumni Award recipient, you have done it all. Your efforts are much appreciated!

This issue of the Alumni Newsletter highlights our final events for the year and gives a glimpse of what's ahead next year.

  • We presented the 2014 Alumni Award to John Woodard '52
  • Nearly 150 former students returned to campus during Alumni Weekend
  • Upcoming events in 2014-2015

Best,

Erin Keith Epker '86

President, Alumni Association

2014 Alumni Award
Head of School Nick Thacher, Alumni Association President Erin Keith Epker '86, John Woodard '52, and Linda Mixter Woodard '58
John V. Woodard '52, an attorney who has dedicated his life to service and volunteerism, has received DCD's 2014 Alumni Award. DCD Alumni Association president Erin Keith Epker '86 presented the award at a reception for alumni on May 2.

John has a long history of serving both his community and DCD. He has spent the last four decades working in the nonprofit world as a board member, often in leadership roles, and as a volunteer consultant working with small nonprofit organizations.

Alumni Weekend
It was great to see so many former students back on campus during Alumni Weekend! Nearly 150 alumni returned to DCD on May 2 and 3, 2014.
Forty alumni attended the Alumni Reception and presentation of the Alumni Award on Friday night, and we welcomed nearly 100 former students and their families at the Alumni Luncheon during the DCD Fair the next day. Click here to see photos of the reception and the fair.

Elizabeth Mumford Prints and Notecards
Cape Cod artist Elizabeth Mumford has created a unique painting of the DCD campus that captures many of the school's most characteristic features and traditions. Painted in the artist's whimsical style, it contains her signature black border, which is inscribed with the school's motto in red lettering. This beautifully detailed painting is on display in the Emmons Lobby.

DCD is selling giclee prints and boxes of notecards featuring this image. Prints are available in small (11"x14") and large (18"x24") sizes, and the notecards are 5"x7" and come in boxes of 10. Please contact Danise Cavallaro at [email protected] if you'd like to purchase a print or some notecards.
