Born in the aftermath of the earthquakes, tsunami, and nuclear disasters that devastated northern Japan on March 11, 2011, the Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta has helped the children of Fukushima find healing, confidence and strength through their engagement with music.
This extraordinary young orchestra has also become a beacon of hope for a region devastated by loss, personal pain and suffering.
On an occasion of the fifth anniversary of the disaster of 2011, more than fifty members of the Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta will travel to Boston for a week of music workshops and exchanges, culminating in a major concert at Boston's Symphony Hall on Sunday evening, April 3 at 8:00 pm.
The conductor of the April 3 concert will be Maestro Tetsuji Honna, who is currently Music Director of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, based in Hanoi.
The program for the Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta concert in Boston includes the following works:
Glinka: Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla
Mozart: Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Major, K314 (with Zach Tarpagos, soloist)
Barber: Adagio for Strings
Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18 (with Panos Karan)

The invitation of Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta to Boston is organized by the Japan Society of Boston in partnership with The Boston Symphony Orchestra and Keys of Change, a British non-profit organization devoted to using music to aid children in need and underprivileged communities.
This project is made possible by an anchor grant from the U.S.-Japan Council's "Tomodachi Fund for Exchange" by Toyota Motor Corporation, Mistubishi Corporation, and Hitachi Corporation. This project is also supported by the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate-General of Japan in Boston.

Cultural News' Mission: to introduce the best of Japanese art exhibitions and cultural events to the public in Los Angeles
The standard budget of the Cultural News operation in past five years is $35,000 annually. The standard annual revenue consists of subscriptions for $15,000, advertisements for $10,000, and donations for $10,000.
In order to ensure publishing the monthly paper in 2015-2017, Cultural News seeks the donation of $30,000 by March 31, 2016.
As of Feb. 16, Cultural News has received $24,475 donation from supporters of Cultural News since January 2015. These supports enable Cultural News to continue publishing in coming years.
