Near 100 people gathered to the public forum on the proposed sale of Keiro facilities at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Little Tokyo in the evening of Sept 29.
This forum was called by Dr. Charles Igawa, Mr. Mo Nishida, Rev. Mark Nakagawa, Dr. Takeshi Matsumoto, Dr. Keiko Ikeda, Dr. Ronald Shigematasu, Dr. Kenji Irie and other people in Los Angeles.
Three physicians, Dr. Matsumoto, Dr. Shigematsu, and Dr. Irie, have their offices in the building called "Medical Building" by local people in Little Tokyo. Two third of the Keiro retirement home residents are patients of three physicians.
In December 2013, the three physicians were explained by the Kiero administrator about the plan of sale of Keiro retirement and nursing home facilities. The three doctors disagree with the sale plan.
A few people who are families of the Keiro residents also expressed their opposition to the facilities sale.
Distinguished figures in the public forum included Mr. Gary Kawaguchi, Chair of Kiero board, and Mr. Warren Furutani, former Los Angeles School Board President and California State Assemblyman. Furutani is currently running for California State Senator.
