Peace on Your Wings
was born as a small traveling stage for the 125th anniversary celebration of Hompa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii. But for Honolulu-based composer Jennifer Taira, the Sadako story, Hiroshima girl tragedy after atomic bombing, always occupies her mind as a potential of a great musical.

Los Angeles-based opera singer Laurie Rubin wrote lyrics, and New York-based Danielle Bensky choreographed dances. As a result, Taira, Rubin, and Bensky created 24 songs for Peace on Your Wings.

Peace on Your Wings is depicting an ordinary school life of Sadako Sasaki who survived the atomic bombing in Hiroshima, her sickness, and aftermath of her death.

Peace on Your Wings has received many praises in Hawaii, and Masahiro Sasaki, Sadako's older brother, was moved by the musical when he attended the Honolulu performance last August.

Hawaii-born musical Peace on Your Wings will be performed by well-trained 80 original young casts in exuberant mood at Aratani Theatre in Little Tokyo.

Presented by Ohana Arts in Hawaii and Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Los Angeles, in partnership with Helen Bing, Peace on Your Wings combines modern pop with Japanese influences.

Peace on Your Wings is inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki, a young Japanese girl who developed leukemia from radiation caused by the bombings in Hiroshima, and hoped to have her dreams of good health come true by folding a thousand paper cranes.

Her friends supported her and together they inspired an international peace movement and a monument to the child victims in Hiroshima.
