Obon in Okinawa: Lecture and Bon Dance in Gardena, Aug 29

Still in the Obon Festival mood? The Okinawa Association of America invites you to a special lecture and Bon Odori on August 29th, 2PM, at the OAA Center in Gardena.

This event is part of an ongoing series of educational/cultural programs at the OAA and will focus on Obon traditions in Okinawa.

A Skype video lecture will be presented by members of Ukwanshin Kabudan, a Ryukyuan performing arts troupe based in Hawai`i.

Collin Hoo, a young OAA member who studied in Okinawa for one year, will share his Obon experiences and pictures.

The event will conclude with Hawaii-style Okinawan Bon dancing, which features 7 unique choreographies and live musicians!

We encourage everybody to dance with us, so bring your happi coats and folding fans!

General admission is $5 (free for current OAA members) and proceeds will go toward educational/cultural programming at the OAA.

required due to limited seating and parking. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
