Japanese American forum on 1945 Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic bombing to be held at San Fernando Valley, Aug. 2, at 2:00PM

A Japanese American forum and art exhibition on the Atomic Bombs dropped on Aug. 6 and 9, 1945 will be held on Sunday, August 2, at 2:00 pm at the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center, 12953 Branford St., Pacoima, CA 91331.

 

This event is sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Citizen's League, Council for Pacific Asian Theology, together with Shadows For Peace (Richard Fukuhara and Robert Horsting).

 

All are welcome to this free event. Junior High and Senior High school students are especially encouraged to attend this rare opportunity to learn about this historical milestone event.

 

Many Japanese American families had relatives in the Hiroshima and Nagasaki areas, so news of the Atomic bombings role in Japan's surrender brought mixed blessings to families still in the camps.

 

Sons serving in the Pacific Theater would now be safe and no longer concerned about facing Japanese national relatives in battle, but many of these distant relatives faced a devastation which no one could fully comprehend.

Video Interview with Dr. James Yamazaki, who in 1949 was assigned as Physician-in- Charge of the United States Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission in Nagasaki.

 

Hear reflections by speaker John Cobb, prominent theologian and ethicist who was born in Japan, raised there until he reached age 15, and later returned at the conclusion of WWII, as a member of the US military during the occupation of Japan.
