The Okinawa Association of America in Gardena hosts an event with painter Laura Kina and photographer Emily Hananko Momohara on Friday, July 10, 8:00 pm, at the OAA Center.

They will be promoting their joint exhibition at the Japanese American National Museum titled "Sugar/Islands: Finding Okinawa in Hawai'I" and selling/signing copies of their book.

Kina and Momohara's works explore the experiences of Okinawan immigrants in Hawai'i as well as their own Okinawan roots and identity. Blending traditional and historical imagery with contemporary and abstract elements, the results are equally haunting and beautiful.

Due to limited space and parking, RSVP is required. Contact the OAA at (310) 532-1929 or oaamensore@gmail.com to reserve seats.
