Nibei's lecture to feature American girl's experience in 1954 Hiroshima, March 24

The Nibei Foundation will feature Ms. Farida Futouhi, author of "Charcoal Girl - Meeting the Ghost of the A-Bomb in 1954 Hiroshima" as the speaker of the Powerful Networking Meeting Lecture Series on Tuesday, March 24, at Tersaki Foundation Laboratory Building, 11570 West Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064.

Admission free.

The dinner with the author will start at 6:00 p.m. and the lecture will start at 7:00 p.m.

Farida Fotouhi, author of "Charcoal Girl - Meeting the Ghost of the A-Bomb in 1954 Hiroshima," will tell the story behind her book.

Ms. Fotouhi's father was the first American diplomat stationed in Hiroshima after the atomic bomb, and Farida was the only American in her Japanese elementary school.

Her talk will be illustrated with photos and excerpts from her book, including the "kamishibai" (graphic novel) she wrote at age 7 in Japanese, not realizing at the time that it was a metaphor for the atomic bomb and the human costs of war.

It's an inspiring story of how former enemies became friends, demonstrating ways the human heart can bridge the chasms of past enmities.

It's also a fascinating look into what Japan was like after WWII before the "economic miracle."

Ms. Fotouhi is now President of Reality2, a branding and creative agency in Los Angeles.
