Painter Barbara Thomason's collection of 100 Not So Famous Views of L.A. (now available as an art book) draws directly from the works of 19th century Japanese printmaker Utagawa Hiroshige.
Barbara will lecture and present images that reference Hiroshige's importance to her work with in-depth discussion of the ukiyo-e genre; its style, composition, and subject matter.
Barbara's perspective is contextualized by her own very personal experience of creating a unique body of work that is both a tribute to the master and a completely modern series that stands on its own as a refreshing new look at our city.
