To coincide with various New Year's Day celebration events in Little Tokyo, LA Kimono Club presents 2015 Miss & Mr. Kimono LA Contest on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Japanese Village Plaza in Little Tokyo.
Eight to nine contestants for each category are expected to appear in the contests.
Miss & Mr. Kimono LA will be announced at 12:30 pm at the Noguchi Plaza in the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center campus.
Kimono show with 2015 Miss & Mr. Kimono will be presented at Weller Court stage from 2:05 p.m. - 2:40 p.m.
In the contest, each contestant will show their kimono by walking solo, "striking a pose," and doing a full turn for judges. Judging includes Japanese Kimono experts who will evaluate the type of Kimono, as well as how beautifully it looks and how it is worn.
There are no restrictions on the type of kimono, however additional credit is awarded to traditional kimonos.
Winners will be announced at 1:00 pm at Noguchi Plaza in Little Tokyo. Winners will be presented at Weller Court and Japanese Village Plaza during the annual Kimono Fashion show at Little Tokyo's "Oshogatsu" celebration.
Miss Kimono LA will receive a Furisode kimono and Obi (both $1000 value), a three-year membership to LA Kimono Club certificate, and 4 free kimono lessons voucher.
Miss Kimono LA First Runner up will receive a $100 gift certificate, and a three-year membership to LA Kimono Club certificate.
Mr. Kimono LA will receive $100 cash, one bottle of sake, and a three-year membership to LA Kimono Club certificate.
All participants will receive a one-year membership to LA Kimono Club certificate.
