Q: Are there products to control your holiday lights electronically?

A:
Yes. Light shows are becoming ever more popular, especially now that electronics and LEDs are getting less expensive.  Follow the directions on the following link and you should have a good start: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Your-Christmas-Lights-Flash-to-Music

The computer software is easy to use and configure.  Depending on how you set it up, you can have the lights run like a graphic equalizer and play any music that you like.  This is easiest.

The alternative is programming each light channel to each part of a song. Consider also purchasing a short-range radio channel to broadcast the music at night - this will help your neighbors to only get annoyed with the flashing lights and not music also.

Expect a big bill from the electric company.  If you think that the LEDs are expensive, wait until you see your electric bill.

Depending on the size of your light show, you will need to purchase a separate circuit box from the electric company for the side of your house.

If you're like me, after you do all of this research, you might decide to leave well enough alone with your single-strand house outline.
