EAS  2012  RAMADAN  IFTAR 

 

The EAS is celebrating the arrival of Ramadan by holding a Ramadan Iftar event.   

  

Join us and celebrate this festive occasion with fellow Egyptians and friends.  Enjoy Middle Eastern cuisine and entertainment.   All are invited.

 

When:  Saturday, August 4 at 7:30 PM (sunset is around 8:10 PM)

Where: Twin Pines Seniors & Community Center (TPS&CC)

            20 Twin Pines Lane

            Belmont, CA 94002

     

Cost:    $30 per person for those who paid the EAS 2012 membership dues

            $40 per person for others

            No charge for children under 10 years of age

We Would Like to Hear From You

 

The EAS Executive Committee' top priority is bringing the community together and believe that enhanced and increased communication is key to achieve that. Towards that end we seek your help and input in the following areas:

  • Provide us with articles, news and ideas that you think would be on interest to your fellow members. We will include them in our newsletter and website as much as possible and will evaluate including proposed EAS activities. We also welcome your feedback.
     
  • Share with us and the community your and your family's achievements, successes and news 
     
  • EAS Directory
    We have a directory of services of interest to the community on the EAS website. If your profession entails providing a public service, e.g. physician service, dentist service, transportation, trade, travel, etc.; let us know and we will include that (without endorsement) in the EAS directory.

    Our condolences to Dr. Hani and Ziza Badawi and their extended family for the loss of Sherif Badawi; Hani's brother
      
  • In Sympathy
     
    Our condolences to the family of Dr. Mohamed El-Wakil.  Dr. El-Wakil passed away recently.  A true scholar who spent most of his career on the Nuclear Engineering faculty at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.  He authored numerous publications and books and served at AUC as a visiting professor for a few years.  He had led an effort of a team, that included Dr. Samir Kamal and Dr. Cherif Bassiouni, in founding the Association of Egyptian American Scholars on 1974.  He moved to the Bay Area after retiring from the University of Wisconsin.

THE FOURTH ANNUAL EGYPTIAN FESTIVAL

THE EGYPTIAN  CANCER  NETWORK (ECN)
 

 

ECN is a US 501(c)3 organization with the mission to provide charitable support for the Children Cancer Hosital in Cairo as well as cancer research in Egypt.  The Children Cancer Hospital is well equipped and offers state of the art treatment for children striken with cancer.  Many needy families are not charged for the treatment of their children.  Donations to the ECN are tax deductible for US income tax purposes.
 
You make donations directly to the ECN through their website (ECN) or you can participate in some local donations drives that benefit ECN.
 
Currently, we have 2 efforts in the Bay Area for the benefit of ECN, we ecourage you to support these eforts through your generous donations.  These efforts are:
 
(1) A drive headed by Soha Athanasios.   Check Soha'a website Soha's ECN Bay Area Drive for details.
(2) Songs for Children event to be held July 28 at 8:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church on  3149 Waverly Street in Palo Alto, CA  94306.   Mariam Helmy, the daughter of Fatma and Yousry Helmy will be singing at this event. For more details click on

 

 
 
HELP  WANTED
 

 

The EAS Executive Committee is seeking volunteers from our community to help us with some of the tasks at hand, mainly web design and volunteers to help with the Iftar event.  Please contact us if you can lend a hand.  You can reach us at:
 
Web Designer:  We need someone who has webmaster experience to help us redesign our website and guide us so we can maintain it after that
 
Iftar Event Volunteers:
We need 3 sets of Volunteers to help assure smooth functioning of the evnt, namely:
Set-up team: to help us set the plates, silverware, table clothes, etc.  You need to arrive early (between 6:30 and 7:99)
Reception Ream: Greet the guests, check names and payments, collect missing data and any last minute fund accounting
Wrap up team: to help in clearing the tables and tidy up yhe place. You need to stay a bit later than the guests
EAS 2012 Membership Dues

 

The 2012 membership fees are now due: $15 per person or $30 per couple.
