Guys Grill & Chill Meat, potatoes, and men
|
Grilled pork and potatoes are on the menu.
|
All men of the parish are invited to join together at the rectory, 626 Pomona Avenue, this Thursday evening, August 20 at 6:00 p.m. for good eats and fellowship. Bring your beverage of choice (and some to share) and $5 to help cover the grub. It'll be a great chance for just the guys to get together and grill and chill.
Although there are lots of guys coming there are still a few seats available if you RSVP by tomorrow, August 19! |
Broadway Hits, Spirituals, and more... Concert open to everyone Two of our favorite choristers will be joined by special guest Leigh Scarritt in a free musical concert this Sunday afternoon, August 23 at 3:30 p.m. in the church. The trio will sing selections from Broadway, musical theater, opera arias, spirituals, and more, and will be accompanied by Janie Prim principal dance pianist for the San Diego Opera. We're certain this will be a highly entertaining afternoon, so plan to be here and bring your friends and neighbors. There will be a free-will offering collected.

Identify Yourself.... It's time to order name badges
|
Order your name badge this week.
|
Sometimes it's hard to put a name to a face. You may sit in the same pew week after week with parishioners you recognize but don't by name. Wearing a Christ Church name badge helps. No badge? No problem; we'll be placing an order next week. Just stop by the Welcome Center this Sunday and fill out an order form or contact the parish office and we'll fill one out for you. Badges are $10 a piece. |
Don't Miss the Fair "Sundae" August 30 Don your favorite, festive, fair chapeau and step right up next Sunday, August 30 to find out more about who we are at Christ Church, what we do, and where you fit in. The fair will run from 9:00-11:30 a.m. We believe that you'll be amazed at the many ministries that serve the parish and beyond. Oh, and we'll have "make-your-own" sundaes after the 10:00 o'clock service - yummy. We also hope to have an Open House at the newly re-furbished apartment above the Thrift Shop. |
Take Sunday School for a Whirl! Registration begins soon... It's school time, yay! Children will be heading off to begin a new school year and we'll be doing the same at Christ Church. Sunday school officially begins September 13. This year we'll have Godly Play, Whirl, and Echo the Story - offerings for all ages. Registration begins on Sunday, August 30 at our Ministry Fair. Do you enjoy working with children? You can volunteer as little as once a month and share these wonderful curricula with the youngest members of our parish. Talk with Charlette Preslar, Director of Youth and Family Ministries, about all of our Christian education opportunities for youth this fall. Look for the Sunday school table in the courtyard.

Bike Blessing 411 The things we learned....
Officers Greytok and Mannello, as well as Police Explorer Max, visited the Blessing of the Bicycles last Sunday. We learned many things about our safety while riding and keeping our bikes safe. Did you know that the police department offers Coronadoans the opportunity to register their bike? Registering your bikes makes it easier for police to locate and return them in the event they are stolen. It's simple and it's free! They also suggest that you retain a photo of your bike - much easier to identify that merely a description.
We also learned that if you value your bike, lock it with a U-lock - cables locks just don't do the job. And if you value your life, wear a helmet! We'd like to thank Holland's Bicycles for donating a helmet and U-lock that was raffled off at the blessing event.

Give Peace a Chance How are you celebrating? Here's what we have planned.... We have special things planned for this year's International Day of Peace - we'll be planning and working during the month of September towards our special day, Sunday, September 20. We're planning a "Piece for Peace" bake sale, peace/prayer flag making, a special speaker, and the dedication of our very own peace pole, with smaller peace poles and peace sign window clings for your very own. If you'd like to bake for the bake sale, contact Sarah Shealy Stump. |
