EASTER

Make us an Easter people,

O Christ, whose name

Is "Alleluia."

May we, like Mary,

Rise in joy when you call our name.

May we like Thomas,

See and believe.

May we like Peter,

Become bold and brave.

May we, like Cleopas,

Meet you in every road.

May we, like them,

Be utterly changed,

In the victory of your love

By which you left your tomb,

And saved us forever

From death.

In your name, Jesus.

Amen.

Forum
Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in Hinde Hall.

This Sunday, What a Difference a Day Makes -The Easter candy is on sale, the Mother's Day cards are on the shelves, but Easter is not over! Join our lively conversation as we reflect, as Easter people, about the difference Christ's Resurrection makes for us.

"A man who was merely a man

and said the sort of things Jesus said

wouldn't be a great moral teacher.

He'd either be a lunatic---

on a level with a man who says he's a poached egg---

or else he'd be the devil of hell.

You must make your choice.

Either this man was, and is, the Son of God,

or else a madman or something worse."

C.S. Lewis

Next week we'll have A Honey of a Forum. Thanks to the generosity of Christ Church parishioners and friends, sixty two bee hives will be sent by Episcopal Relief and Development into communities around the world to provide a sustainable livelihood and a healthy diet. Join Charlette Preslar in a tasty tour of honey and its miraculous benefits.

The Listen System
Is it hard to hear at church?
If you've moved up front and you still can't hear or favor your pew in the back and have no idea what is being said, perhaps this will help. It's an FM radio transmitter that is connected t our sound system and allows parishioners to have their own personal headphone speaker anywhere in the sanctuary. It's a little like "Radio Free Christ Church." Please ask an usher for a transmitter and please remember to return it after the service.

Empty Bowls Event
Coronado High School Multi-Purpose Room - April 16
empty bowls

The Empty Bowls Project is an international project with the goal of feeding those in need.  The Coronado High School chapter has a goal of raising $30,000 in just two hours this year.  That will provide well over 100,000 meals right here in San Diego!

The Empty Bowls Project is celebrating it's 25th anniversary this year.

"Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight ...Potters and other craftspeople, educators and others work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity." More information at the Empty Bowls Website.

Do you have questions about Christ Church?
Then just "Ask Abbey"
abbey
Abbey will do her best to answer your church questions.

Dear Abbey,

I've not seen anything from you in quite a long time. I have a question for you.Why does Rev. Tom wear his "sash" differently than Rev. Anne and Rev. Mike?

Just Curious

Dear Curious,

You are being very observant. Yes, Rev. Tom does wear his "stole" across his left shoulder and tied on his right side. Mike and Anne wears theirs on the opposite side. A deacon (the first order of the ministry) always wears the stole this way. It is a symbol of his "office" as a servant assisting the clergy at the Altar and they can read the Gospel. Thanks for asking!

Abbey

Episcopal Night at the Padres
July 17, 7:10 p.m. vs. Colorado Rockies
Padres night
July 17 - 7:10 p.m. vs.
Colorado Rockies
We're off to a bit of a rocky start but we have high hopes for our team. This annual event is a good time for the diocese to gather as one family and enjoy a summer ballgame (at discounted prices!) Tickets include $12 for Upper Reserved seats (value $17), $25 for Toyota Terrace ($40 value) and $63 for Skyline Patio which includes food and beverages. We're looking for the perfect team of Padre fans who are willing to coordinate the Christ Church ticket sales. We're told that the parish that sells the most tickets gets to designate someone to throw out the first ball! Contact the parish office if you want to be team captain!

Service & Outreach
Weekly Food Donation
Re-commit to helping this spring

Bring canned beans this Sunday!
Thank you for your continued dedication to the St. Mark's Neighborhood Food Pantry; your donations each week are very important to help insure the pantry is stocked. Bring non-perishable food:
  • April 12 - canned beans
  • April 19 - pasta & sauce
  • April 26 - peanut butter & jelly

While our weekly items are all important St. Mark's has expressed a special need for canned vegetables, soups, pasta and pasta sauce. They are completely out of these items and are unable to obtain them from the Feeding American at this time.

Take this opportunity to help us help our new neighbors. Almost nightly we watch people on the news fleeing from war and oppression. Refugees experience a life-or-death test of courage and perseverance, struggling to make it to a UN Refugee Camp to escape war or persecution. They then wait years for approval to come to a safe home where they face new challenges: learning a new language, adapting to a new culture, and finding a way to support themselves. This is an endurance test requiring many skills.

The Refugee Network provides the "coaches, trainers and supporters" who vastly enhance their chance of successful resettlement in San Diego. For additional information contact Jake Young.
