This week at Christ Church
|
Holy Week Schedule on-line
Holy Week, the last week of Lent before Easter, begins with Palm Sunday in which we commemorate Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, followed by his arrest and crucifixion. On Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday), we observe Jesus' institution of the Last Supper and message of discipleship by washing his disciples' feet. On Good Friday we remember Jesus' crucifixion and death, and on Holy Saturday we recall God's salvation history beginning with creation and culminating in Jesus' resurrection.
We hope that you will join us this Holy Week - the schedule is available on the Christ Church website. Please be sure to check the volunteer schedule to see if you are serving at one of the many services.

Flowering the Cross Easter Sunday
|
Bring your flowers on Easter.
|
Don't let all the lovely flowers in your award-winning garden go to waste. Bring some to share Easter morning; we'll adorn the cross that will go in the church for the 10:30 a.m. service. The cross will be outside in the courtyard beginning at 8:00 a.m. Just bring your cut flowers and either put them on the cross or drop them in one of the vases available. If we all donate a flower or two it will be spectacular!

Easter Family Events
The Men's Bible Study group will be providing an celebratory Easter breakfast in Hinde Hall at 7:30 a.m. after the early service. Everyone is invited. You can come early, eat, and attend the 8:30 a.m. service.
There will be no Sunday school on Easter but nursery is available
|
There might be jellybeans!
| from 8:15 a.m. until 12:00 noon in Clare's Cottage across the street at 919 C Avenue. At 10:00 a.m. in the courtyard, Erin Heely, Director of Children and Family Ministries, will read the Easter story and lead Easter crafts for families. Look for the white canopy near the flagpole.
Don't forget to bring flowers and have your children help with flowering the cross from 8:00-10:00 a.m. in the courtyard. Nothing special is needed, just clip of few blooms from your garden. The children really enjoy this activity - let them choose the flowers!

Drops of Hope We're making a difference
|
Thank you for your support to our Drops of Hope campaign. We're building a well!
|
Thank you for your incredible support to our Drops of Hope campaign. Through your generosity we exceeded our goal of $2000! As usual the Christ Church family sees a need and fills it. Your donations, along with others in the diocese, will provide clean water and training in well maintenance and basic hygiene - helping secure access to one of life's necessities and allowing families to grow strong for the future through Episcopal Relief and Development. The importance of fresh, clean, accessible water is not lost on us; we will make a difference - drop by drop.

Episcopal Refugee Network Amazing Journey Annual Gala - May 3 Join Christ Church friends for a night of fun at the Amazing Journey Gala on May 3. It is the fourth annual fundraiser for the Episcopal Refugee Network, and will be on board the Berkeley, part of the San Diego Maritime Museum, starting at 5:00 p.m. If you are new the the Episcopal Refugee Network, they help resettled families from refugee camps in Sudan, Burma, and Iraq with food distribution, translation services, tutoring for children, and much more, to help them overcome obstacles and become self sufficient. This practical support helps these families stand on their feet. Despite their difficulties, families are able to overcome challenges and gradually settle into their community. The Network depends primarily on individual gifts, and the Gala is their major annual fundraiser. As well as buffet dining and a silent and live auction, there will be ethnic music and dance performances from parts of the world where our San Diego refugees originated. For more information about the gala go the their website. Tickets are $75 per person, and you can buy them direct here. Or you can get a check to the Young, Howe, or Morelli families on Sunday at church. If you can't make it this year, but you might be able to give a donation instead, there is a link on the website. We had a healthy contingent in past years, and hope to make it an even better Christ Church turnout this time. You all were so supportive of the Network when we collected home goods for these families during the month of February. Here's a great way to continue our support and have a fun night with other Christ Church friends while doing so!

Diocesan Capital Campaign Build the Serving Church We at Christ Church are concentrating on raising funds to pay for the remodeled kitchen at the Episcopal Church Center. The kitchen serves hundreds of meals each week to hungry homeless residents of Ocean Beach on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. On April 6, many of you heard Charlette Presslar describe the fine work of our young people who help serve these meals on Saturday mornings. The remodeled kitchen is making it possible for this diocesan ministry to take place. The costs for remodeling the kitchen are just over $150,000. While the Thrift Shop and a handful of Christ Church donors have committed $90,000 to this project, we need your generous involvement to complete the goal. You can view pictures of the ECC remodeling project here, including photos of the beautifully upgraded kitchen. The diocesan offices made the move to ECC last week. Your local campaign committee members have pledged, and all Vestry members are committed to pledge to the kitchen project. We hope you will join us in supporting this important outreach. You can make a one-time gift, or spread the amount over three years. Mark DeMichele reminds us that no gift is too large, or too small! Please pick up a contribution form at the table in the courtyard after church on Sunday or at the parish office during the week. We hope to complete our local campaign by April 28. |
A prayer for our rector search committee: Gracious Lord, guide and direct us as we seek a new rector. Open our eyes, ears, and hearts to discern the person you are already preparing to join us in our ministry. Bless our search committee, vestry, and the candidates with wisdom, clarity, and openness. And in your good time bring us together so we may continue our mission of loving you and serving you all the days of our lives. Amen. |
