Happy Halloween!

Whether you are into the costumes, jack-o-lanterns, and haunted houses, there's no denying that there is tremendous energy generated at this time of year, most of it fun and adorable, but some of it kind of dark and scary. I guess that can be said for everyday life sometimes. The idea of being in the dark and wondering how to deal with what's around the corner can be very uncomfortable. Understanding options and choices, planning the path that suits us best gives us power and might just be that shining light at a time when we need it most. If you're looking for the right time to create an estate plan and take control over your own future, maybe the time is now.   If you already have an estate plan, it is always good to shine a light on it and make sure that you will be able to take the right path.

What is the Difference Between a 401(k) and an IRA?

The terms 401(k) and individual retirement account (IRA) are bandied about quite a bit when discussing retirement planning, but what are the actual differences between the two? The main distinction is that a 401(k) -- named for the section of the tax code that discusses it -- is an employer-based plan, while an IRA is an individual plan, but there are other differences as well.
