Every year, one out of every five people is a victim of a crime in the United States. No other nation on earth has a rate that is higher. One in every four women experience domestic violence within her lifetime.
About 50 percent of violent crimes are not reported, and only a fraction of victims receive the help they need. This week, April 21-27, 2013 is National Crime Victims' Rights Week. Victims and communities are encouraged to say no more to violence and identify bold, new solutions for addressing victimization.
A Woman's Place (AWP) supports this effort by providing community outreach and awareness to local residents and businesses of Bucks County. AWP's First Response program is available 24/7 for immediate interventions in crisis situations for victims who are trying to escape a life of violence. Emotional support, as well as other needs, including shelter, police advocacy, criminal court accompaniment, and resource referrals to agencies throughout the county are all a part of the services we offer.
You can help AWP assist victims. You can help them become empowered individuals, no longer living their lives in fear, but flourishing.
For more information about First Response and/or how you can help please contact First Response Manager Lisa Tucholski at 215.348.0851 or ltucholski@awomansplace.org.
Together, let's create a world where everyone flourishes.
