On Saturday, February 16, teens from all over the county took to the dance floor in honor of Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month (TDVAPM) at the 3rd annual Dance Marathon hosted by the Young Adult Advisory Board (YAAB) of  A Woman's Place (AWP).

More than 70 teens danced from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Plumsteadville Volunteer Fire Company Banquet Hall and raised more than $3,300 for AWP, the only domestic violence organization in Bucks County, PA.

Throughout the evening, attendees participated in Zumba, belly dancing, and learned the choreography for the official dance of the ONE BILLION RISING campaign. ONE BILLION RISING is a campaign to celebrate the 15th anniversary of V-Day, a global movement to end violence against women and girls, and get one billion women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to violence against women.

Thank you to all those who participated, donated food, or sponsored the event. Dance Marathon was only one way for you to get involved with AWP and TDVAPM. Here are some other ways you can help through the end of the month:

  • Signing our anti-violence pledge (we have over 25 signatures, help us reach 100 by February 28th!)
  • Posting status updates about TDVAPM on your Facebook and Twitter account(s).
  • Inviting a guest speaker from AWP to discuss teen dating violence with a group you are a part of.  For more information please Contact Education & Training Manager Christina Baer at 215.343.9241 x110 or cbaer@awomansplace.org.
It's February.
