Surprise Pumpkin Patch
This summer we noticed a lot of little plants popping up after we did some major grading. After thinking on it we decided that area was where we had dumped our old Behnke pumpkins last year. So began the "Great Pumpkin Watch" for the rest of the summer.  Our grandson Aaron would run and check them out all the time. He saw the blooms that then turned to tiny pumpkins and then watched them grow. These were all small, and while most were orange, there were two beautiful off-white ones. Perfect size for Aaron.

Tonight was the night we decided it was time to harvest these pumpkins. (Aaron asked if a combine was coming to harvest them.)  Aaron, his dad and Granddad got the big loppers out and pretty quickly the wheelbarrow was loaded. I am thinking that next year we will be planting some GIANT pumpkin seeds and see what happens.

I hope that simple things like spending a few minutes doing something like this creates lasting memories for Aaron. They sure have for us.
