What's Blooming In Your Garden?
Lord Baltimore
Lord Baltimore Hibiscus

Yesterday, while walking in our yard, I was so excited to see some of my hardy hibiscus were blooming. I have always loved seeing these dinner-plate-sized blooms each year. Hibiscus have a long history with Behnke Nurseries. Many, many years ago, we were lucky enough to have working for us a man by the name of Bob Darby. He developed the now famous 'Lord Baltimore' hibiscus, as well as 'Lady  Baltimore', 'Anne Arundel' and 'Turn of the Century'. Over the years we have sold thousands and thousands of them at our garden center. (Click the link below to read more about Mr. Darby and perennial hibiscus at Behnke's.)

I just love seeing these big beautiful blooms waving gently in the breeze, every year getting larger and larger. My hibiscus are all along our fence mixed with many other perennials. Of course I love my other perennials, but there just is something about a flower that is the size of a dinner plate...
