Aaron's Tree Fort
Thirty some years ago, my grandfather, Albert Behnke, gave us a Norway Spruce. We planted it in our front yard and for a few years we enjoyed the Christmas lights that my husband and son would put on it each year. Then, as it grew taller and taller, for some reason we just stopped putting on the lights.
A few weeks ago while walking around the yard, our grandson, Aaron, looked at this big tree and said, "Granddad this is my tree fort." That was pretty much all it took. Granddad and Aaron looked at it and decided they could cut out the limbs on the bottom 4 feet facing our house and make a tree fort underneath. Aaron was so excited that he was ready to get to work on it right away!! "Come on, Granddad!" and away they went to get the tools they needed, which included the much loved wheelbarrow. It took a few days, but they got the job done. Of course all the dump trucks and bulldozers had to come out to help finish the work. Then, something amazing started happening: each time Aaron came over to visit us, a new little friend would appear. Aaron calls them his little people.
I have said before, I have a great job! Besides buying for Christmas, I also get to pick out all the cool little fairy garden accessories. While it has been pretty neat to find the perfect little bridge and the beautiful little girl fairies, I have to say, I really wanted some things that would attract little boys. Finally, this year I stumbled upon all things boys: dragons, fishing poles, dogs and bears, oh my! Everything a Big Boy needs in his tree fort. These lazy, hot summer days will be perfect under the branches of this tree for Aaron to dream and use his imagination!
