Last weekend during our Garden Party I heard so many times, "I remember when..." and then the shared memories would begin. I remember when my mother would bring me to Behnke's to feed the swans; I remember when I was little I would play under the benches while my parents shopped; I remember when you had that playground with the big slide; I remember when I got to do a driving tour of Mr. Behnke's gardens in Burtonsville; I remember when I was in school with your mother/uncles; I remember when I worked for your grandfather and we had to weed all day long...
On and on the stories went. I just wish I had thought to take notes since I cannot remember what everyone said. I think sometimes I forget just how many lives Behnke's and my grandparents have touched these last 85 years. It seems that everyone knows someone who knows someone who either worked or shopped at Behnke's. Heck, there is even a T-shirt that lists Behnke's third of things that say, "You know your from Beltsville if..."
