Two Of Behnke's Superstars!
A month or so ago, we were approached by Mike Ayala of DC HouseSmarts TV to see if they could come out to our garden center to film an upcoming episode of their show.
Of course we said "sure," but then came the "oh gosh, who wants to be on TV?" While we are very blessed to have so many knowledgeable folks on staff, many of them are a little camera shy. I know I sure would not want to be filmed for TV. Luckily, Christopher Lewis and Terri Poindexter stepped up and said they would do it!
The show was to be about lawn care and planting up a Spring porch pot. After walking around the garden center, they saw the little brick cape cod house that I grew up in. Perfect! In front of the house, Christoper demonstrated the different things you should do for your lawn during the year and answered many questions. Then, inside the garden center we went to find Terri, who showed Mike how to plant up a beautiful blooming container garden using the tried and true method of having a Thriller (a tall plant), a Filler (a plant that will fill out the pot) and a Spiller (a plant that will trail over the pot).
Mike Ayala and his film crew were so nice during the almost 6 hours of filming. After it was done and the crew packed up and left, we thought with as much film as they got, we would be the focus of the entire 30 minute show. Ha! 4:19 total time, but it was great! The show aired in the DC area last week on NBC but if you missed it you can watch it with the link below. Thank you to Terri and Christoper for being such good sports and becoming the Superstars we always knew you were!

Check Out What's New & Exciting

KETCHUP 'N' FRIES!
It's a tomato grafted onto a potato; harvest tomatoes & potatoes from the same plant! A great project to do with kids & well suited for small-space vegetable gardening. |
MASON BEE HOUSES!
Though we're doing all we can to help stop the decline of honey bees (click here for our bee policy), we also want to encourage mason bees & other solitary bees. Much less likely to sting than honey bees & can pollinate much, much more! |
POPCORN PLANT!
OK, this is one that we've had for a couple of years, but we're still excited about it. An annual with stunning yellow flowers and foliage that smells like popcorn. Really!
