Easter Baskets, Mother's Day and Wedding Showers

This past weekend, I was at my second wedding shower in the last few months!  While both brides had a gift registry and I clicked online to look over all the neat things they had picked out, for one reason or the other I just never got around to buying anything on their lists.  I told myself that I would do it later, or I really needed to go to the store and see just what I was going to buy. Before I knew it, there I was a few days before the shower and what I wanted to get them was, of course, gone!  What to do?

It came to me then that I have access to everything a new couple could use. Who says it has to be pots and pans or sheets and towels?  Why not pick out things for the garden?  I knew right away that I was going to use the beautiful pottery we have.  Then I went shopping; a trowel, some herbs, gardening gloves and maybe even some gardeners' soap!  While at the shower I found that everyone liked the idea of the gift pots. Someone mentioned that they wanted to make one for an upcoming housewarming.  I can picture the perfect gift for her to give: a big rubber tote filled with an assortment of summer blooming bulbs and all the extras that go with planting them.  Or, a basket filled with bird feeders and food.  And the list goes on.

This coming Saturday, bride #1 gets married.  Bride #2 is having a June wedding, so I am thinking maybe some perennials.
