 The past few weeks we have received application after application from crafters that want to exhibit Saturday at our 7th Annual Craft Show and Sale. The show actually has gotten so large we have had to move it to our big annuals greenhouse! I am always so impressed at the talent of these folks. I have to admit I have "Crafters Envy". I should probably start my own Pinterest page called "All-Thumbs Crafts." With a house full of unfinished products and supplies, I finally have parted ways with all my jewelry-making stuff and gave it to our store manager Sissy, who makes beautiful beaded jewelry when she wants to relax. I have admitted to myself and my husband that I am craft-challenged, and will just go ahead and buy what I like at the craft show.
Many of you have been enjoying reading our blog posts from Jessica Crawford. I have known this young woman since she was a little girl and just love how she finds such joy in creating so many different things for her home and family. This week you will find her step-by-s tep instructions on how to create the nicest stamped tea towels that I have seen in a long time. I hope you can take a few minutes and check out her article. Plus, Jessica is planning on attending our craft show with some of the items she has made over the past few months so you can stop by and say hello to her. She just told me that she finally opened up her very own Etsy store, Toadstools and Thyme online, to see how her crafts sell. I love her name for her store! Seriously, Toadstools! Perfect for her!

 Some of the staff at Behnke Nurseries though it would be interesting for me to share one of my latest crafts and how-to-instructions. Some of my favorite crafting creations have come from unusual and unexpected inspiration. I love taking something from nature and bringing it indoors to combine our outside world with our inside world. I think that sometimes it's easy to forget to really appreciate the beauty that is around us in the everyday and the ordinary.
Several years ago, I saw a page online where someone had adorned plain cotton table linens with silhouettes stamped from fresh fruit segments. I thought they were such simple creations but also so delicate and beautiful and have since wanted to give the project a try myself. While shopping a couple of weeks ago for house essentials, I passed by an offer I could not resists. I saw packs of five plain white flour sack tea towels--they were calling to me. A few months ago I went to a trade show at Harbor Place. While I was walking around looking at all the really neat new products we were thinking of selling at the nursery, I was surprised when a friend of mine, Linda Congedo, ran up to me to say hi! WOW! Never expected to see her there!
She was so excited to tell me about this new product that she and her partner, Chip McAuliffe, (they live nearby in Howard County) were promoting at the trade show! It was the coolest thing I have seen in awhile. I brought our Garden Shop buyer, Mike Bader, over to see what he thought, and he liked them so much he signed right up!
Chip invented the CarGo Apron when he was frustrated by not having a way to easily protect the entire cargo area of his new SUV when hauling yard waste to the dump. He put his inventor's cap on went about designing a solution that fully contained all the parts and pieces to quickly install a waterproof and tear proof cargo area liner into any hatchback, SUV or minivan, with no permanent attachment components left in the vehicle. He patented his invention, and the CarGo Apron is the result. Chip and Linda are working hard to get their small business off the ground, and are very excited to have Behnke's being part of spreading the word about this great new product.
There is a widespread problem of hauling messy loads while keeping the interior of vehicles clean. I'm sure you've seen what we have; people ineffectively using blankets or tarps or sheets of plastic to try to achieve that result. Dirt, moisture, and debris always seem to find their way around these ineffective barriers. Don't tell my husband, but he is getting one for Christmas! ~ Stephanie Fleming
