Evan & Leah playing in the Aconites
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and I think this one says it all. Taken last week on one of those oh-so-warm days we just had, it just makes me smile. Right away I knew I had to share it with everyone! While Miri, our Woody Plant Buyer was concerned that they were actually standing on, gasp! Flowers! I was thrilled that WINTER was OVER!. I don't care that we might still get a few more cold days! The nice days are starting to show up more and more! The two smiling faces here are Evan and his sister Leah, playing at their Lolly & Pop's house! Their grandmother, Alice works for us in Beltsville. Don't you just love what the kids call them? Lolly and Pops for Grandma and Granddad! The flowers, by the way are winter aconites, planted as bulbs in the Fall. Crocuses and snowdrops are blooming now, too!

I found this tip for raw broccoli that works like a charm on SimplyRecipes.com and have it on our Pinterest Board if you would like to try a great Broccoli Salad
The problem with most broccoli salads is the broccoli - the raw broccoli. Some people like raw broccoli, and actually, I love raw broccoli stems. They taste a lot like cabbage or cauliflower. But the florets? If they're raw, keep them away, please. So, how to make a broccoli salad if you don't like raw broccoli? The solution - blanch the broccoli for 1 minute, or no more than two minutes. The broccoli will still be firm enough for the salad, the color will be even prettier, because blanching brings out the green, and the taste will be less raw and more cooked. Click on the Pinterest button for the recipe Our early Spring crops of vegetable plants just arrived, and we will have them in stock for several week. Choose from Arugula, Broccoli, Jade Brussels Sprouts, Savoy & Red Delight Cabbage, Snow Crown Cauliflower, Georgia Collards, Mei Qing Pak Choi, Melody Spinach, Red Russian Kale, and Bright Lights Swiss Chard, Plus these lettuces: Buttercrunch, Bistro Mix, Lolla Rossa, Parris Romaine, and Black-Seeded Simpson.
