I am done with Ground Hog Day! Seriously, with all the cameras and lights, of course  Punxsutawney Phil is going to see his shadow!  We are going to go with good old Jotnar, Behnke's Giant Head, and he says: "Winter is almost over, shadows or not". He is ready for some beautiful Spring days full of color.

For this to work we all have to repeat three times: "Winter is almost over, Winter is almost over, Winter is allmost over."  And I promise this summer when the temperatures are over 100 degrees, I will not wish for cooler weather.. Just saying...

BTW, Phil's track record is less than reliable. He's gotten it right just 39 percent of the time since 1887!

Hawaii and private collections. There will be lots of very rare and unusual orchids. This is one of the largest Orchid Auctions in the country.

The fun starts this way: First check in at the front desk and receive a numbered paper plate and pencil. Browse the auction room and take note of which exotic orchids you want to bid on. Write the number down so you won't miss the plants when they are brought up to the auctioneer. When the auction starts,raise your numbered plate to bid on your dream orchid. Repeat this step until

you are the winner. Your winning orchid will be taken to a secure holding area with your number on it until you check out at the NCOS cash register.

Behnkes is providing free tool-cleaning and sharpening demonstrations on weekends through February 23 at the Beltsville location, plus free maintenance of your own tools !  (Limit three per customer, please.  This is popular and we want to avoid lines.)  It's first come, first served and doesn't include lawn-mower blades or saws.  The demonstration is from 1:00 to 1:30 and free maintenance on customer tools is from 1:30 to 4:00.
