Reading Champions
Thursday Performers

Check out HPL's calendar for exciting Reading Champions Programs for children grade K-6th. Performances are every Thursday from July 7th through August 11th.
Traveling Lantern Theatre Co.
Thursday, July 7th 2-3pm

A young athlete takes you on an Olympic adventure! Meet Vladimir Cashewninski, champion badminton player, as he prepares to compete at the Olympic Games. The night before his big day, he has an enthralling dream that takes him to Ancient Greece, where he meets the Olympic Herald and teams up with the audience to explore the first Olympic Games.


All Reading Champions Thursday Programs are free & no registration is required. Performances are geared for children grades K-6, but families are welcome.  
Ready Readers Story/Craft Hour!
Fridays, 11am-12pm
July 8th - August 12th

"Ready for anything" will be the theme of the day with stories, songs, crafts, and other related activities to help build life-long readers!

Part of the "On Your Mark,Get Set...READ!" summer reading programming.

This program is for children ages 3 1/2 to 6.
No registration necessary.

Adult Summer Reading Kick-off!
Thursday, July 7th All Day


Stop by Thursday, July 7th, to learn details of our 9th annual four-week program and information about our special events. This year's national theme is "Exercise Your Mind." We have an exciting line-up of fun and creative activities and even a Magic Show! Kick-off fun includes refreshments and a fantastic giveaway!  Get the full list  here or by checking our online calendar. You don't have to wait until the kickoff to register. Sign up at the front desk starting Friday, July 1st.
 
Painted Parasols
Saturday, July 9th 12-2pm

Join Vickie Raabin (aka Miss Vickie) to create a beautiful painted parasol. Parasols are full-sized and made of paper and wood. Let your creativity shine! All supplies are included in this free event for adults.

Expressive Outcomes Exhibit
Opens Saturday July 9th
Reception 5-7pm

HPL is pleased to host Xposure: Discovering What is Underneath, an exhibition of work created by adult artists in Anderson Center for Autism's Expressive Outcomes program. A Second Saturday artists' reception will he held on July 9th from 5-7. Xposure will be on display at the Howland Public Library from July 9th - August 6th.

Magazine Paper Bowls
Tuesday, July 12th 6-7:30pm

Join crafter, Amina Chaudhri, as she teaches us how to make beautiful coiled bowls out of paper. Instead of throwing away magazines and catalogs - make something useful and lovely! All supplies are included in this free event for adults.

Touched by Magic
Wednesday, July 13th 1pm

Adults, join Magician and Ventriloquist Bob Conrad for a truly entertaining show that has it all! Comedy, puppets, and ... a touch of magic.

This fun and entertaining experience is free and no registration is required. This is an "Exercise Your Mind" 2016 Adult Summer Reading Program event. 

New Programs for Teens
Upcycle Art Studio for Teens
Saturday, July 16th 11am-12:30pm

Each month, in the Upcycle Art Studio, teens will experiment transforming discarded materials into works of art. This month, we'll create beautiful "mosaic" collages out of recycled magazines. All supplies are provided.  Just bring yourself and your imagination.
Upcycle Art Studio is for middle school and high school students.

Origami Workshop for Teens
July 22nd & August 12th 3-4:30pm

Local origami expert, "Origami Bob" Voelker, will teach teens how to make beautiful origami creations, starting out simple and getting a little more daring if they wish. Participants will learn about this lovely Japanese art of paper-folding in a fun and relaxed way.
