On April 28th, the Library Budget Referendum and Trustee Elections was held. Thank you to all the Beacon City School District residents who came out to vote. The 2016-2017 Library Budget was approved! Congratulations to the newly elected trustees. Randy Lashua and Jan Dolan were elected to the Board of Trustees for 5 year terms and Lillian Glauda was elected for a 1 year term.

This Week at the Library
St. John's Bible on Display at HPL
Wednesday, May 4th, 1-2pm

Come to view and touch the Heritage Edition of the Saint John's Bible. Derek Sanderson, Assistant Librarian for Instruction Services, at Mount Saint Mary College will provide a brief overview of information, as well as be on hand to answer any questions you may have. This is a unique opportunity to view this high-quality reproduction of a work of art.

The Saint John's Bible is currently being displayed at the Kaplan Family Library, at Mount Saint Mary College, for the academic year 2015-2016. This is the first illuminated, handwritten Bible to be commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in more than 500 years. The original is presently housed at Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota.
Historical Connections:
Margaret Fuller

Historical Connections, a collaboration with the Beacon Historical Society and the Library, will feature a new display about Margaret Fuller for the month of May. Margaret Fuller, a writer, editor, journalist and colleague of Emerson and Thoreau was an early women's rights advocate.  Fuller stayed in Fishkill Landing in the fall of 1844 to begin writing her seminal work, "Woman in the Nineteenth Century".  A historic marker in her honor will be placed at Polhill Park on Saturday, May 21 at 11:00 am.

Book Talk: Caitlyn's Fight
Saturday, May 14th  1pm

Join Putnam County author, Joe Bagnato, as he tells of the darkest hour journey of his daughter Caitlyn's 10.5 month battle with stage four liver cancer. He also tells of how hope kept his family strong.

Since her passing, Mr. Bagnato has formed a foundation that helps children and families battling rare forms of pediatric cancers and blood disorders at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital.

Between the Lines:
Art From Beacon City Schools
Reception Saturday, May 14th  4-6pm

Stop by on May 14th for the reception of Between the Lines, an annual exhibition of art from students from the Beacon City School District.The exhibition was organized with the assistance of Claudine Farley, District Art Department Coordinator and features work from each school in the district. The art on view is just a small sample of the amazing work being done by students in our community with the guidance of their dedicated art teachers. Please join us in celebrating the creativity of these young artists.
