The election for the Howland Public Library Board of Trustees and the library budget vote will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, from NOON - 8 PM at the Howland Public Library, 313 Main Street, Beacon. Public library trustees are elected officials who hold the Library in trust for the Beacon City School District service area. All registered voters in the Beacon City School District are eligible to vote. Absentee ballot applications are available at the library's front desk.
Four candidates are running for three vacancies on the Howland Board of Trustees. There are two five-year terms and one one-year term. Candidates with highest number of votes will serve five-year terms. Those candidates are (in alphabetical order):

Dia Art Foundation Presentation Tuesday, April 19th 6-7pm
Join Dia:Beacon educators for discussion and an introduction to the history and sites of Dia Art Foundation, as well as a drawing exercise that will explore themes related to the collection.

Poem in Your Pocket Day Thursday, April 21st - All Day
Every April, on Poem in Your Pocket Day, people celebrate by carrying a poem with them and sharing it with others throughout the day.

Tech Drop-in Day for Kids Friday, April 22nd 3-4:30pm
Children are welcome to drop in between 3-4:30pm and try out our cool STEM materials that are used during the tech-Tuesdays program. Tinker with ozobots, littleBits, Snap Circuits, and robots Dash & Dot. Tables will be set up so that small groups can try their hand at these cool STEM materials. Parents are welcome to join the fun!

International Film Night Friday April 22nd 7pm
This month's feature, War of the Buttons, comes from Ireland. Torn off shirt buttons are war trophies for two rival groups of boys from neighboring Irish towns. Lessons about friendship, betrayal, and right and wrong, are learned.
Admission is free and no registration required. All films shown in their original language with English subtitles (including films in English.) Doors open at 6:30 and film starts promptly at 7:00pm.

Coloring Books for Adults Tuesday, April 26th 6-7:30
Come to unwind, while expressing your creativity! Adult coloring books offer a variety of designs, often intricate, just waiting to get lost in. Both colored pencils and fine tipped markers will be available, along with a wide variety of coloring books to choose pages from.

Author Talk, Nicholas Conti Thursday, April 28th 6:30-7:30pm
Join local playwright and author, Nicholas Conti, as he talks about his latest novel titled, "The Godmother Wore Prada." Allow women into the mafia? Can fashion help not only clean up the Mob, but revitalize it? Along with "The Godmother Wore Prada," a variety of Mr. Conti's titles will be available for sale and signing.

Intro to Babysitting Saturday, April 30th 11am - 3pm
For ages 10 & up. In this Introduction to Babysitting Course, participants will learn interviewing tips, communication skills, ages and stages of young babies and toddlers, safety and first aid tips, and feeding and caring for children, including diaper changing. A simple test will be administered at the completion of the course and certificates will be distributed. Students may bring a snack and drink for the break.
