Howland Public Library Trustee Election and Budget Vote

The election for the Howland Public Library Board of Trustees and the library budget vote will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, from NOON - 8 PM at the Howland Public Library, 313 Main Street, Beacon.

Tuesday, March 15th 6-7:30pm

Come to unwind, while expressing your creativity! Adult coloring books offer a variety of designs, often intricate, just waiting to get lost in. Both colored pencils and fine tipped markers will be available, along with a wide variety of coloring books to choose pages from.
International Film Night
Friday, March 18th at 7pm

This month's feature, Central Station, comes from Brazil. At Rio de Janeiro's Central Station, two lives are about to be inextricably linked as a retired school teacher reluctantly takes a boy under her wing. Rated R. 113 minutes.
Event is free and no registration required. All films shown in their original language with English subtitles (including films in English.) Doors open at 6:30 and film starts promptly at 7:00pm.
Writing Workshop with Julie Chibbaro Saturday, March 19th 12-3pm
Hone your writing skills with acclaimed, local author, Julie Chibbaro. Her novels, Into the Dangerous World, Deadly, and Redemption, have each earned rave reviews from the likes of "The New York Times Sunday Book Review," "Kirkus Reviews" and "Booklist."

Topics covered during this 3-hour class include character and plot building, techniques to help you bust through your writer's block, as well as the "how" of getting published. This active participation class is not to be missed!

Registration is required for this free event, as space is limited. Go to the Howland Public Library's front desk to register or call 845-831-1134. Be sure to bring paper and pen!
Special Spring Break Programs
tech-Tuesday
Spring Break Drop-in Day
Tuesday, March 22nd 

Children are welcome to drop in between 3-4:30pm and try out our cool STEM materials that are used during the tech-Tuesdays program. Tinker with ozobots, littleBits, Snap Circuits, and MIT's Scratch coding program to make your own animated videos. Tables will be set up so that small groups can try their hand at these cool STEM materials. Parents are welcome to join the fun!
There is no registration as this is not an instructional session.

Neverland comes to Beacon,
An Afternoon with Peter Pan
and His Friends
Wednesday, March 23rd from 1-2pm 

Special Spring Break Program open to all elementary school aged children.
Join members of the cast of The Beacon Players' production of Peter Pan and hear stories and songs from the well-loved play and book by Sir James Barrie. We will read some excerpts from the Classic Starts' Peter Pan book that the 3rd grades will be studying. We'll even make a craft to take home.  

Join us for this exciting preview of the 1953 Broadway Musical PETER PAN presented by the Beacon High School Drama Club in April. ~ No registration necessary for this preview ~
