Anna West's "Ice Art" on Exhibit January 10th

The Howland Public Library is pleased to present Ice Art, a digital exhibition by Beacon painter and photographer, Anna West. This special 24 hour eExhibit can be viewed from Main Street through the library's windows the evening of Saturday, January 10th.

Anna West has been painting ice and snow since 1995 when she food colored icicles and spray painted hearts on snow in her Brooklyn neighborhood and her husband's hometown in Ohio. Since then, she has painted hearts in Russia, color bombed frozen fountains in Sweden and transformed 30-foot-long icicles in Cold Spring, NY.  On Valentine's Day 2014, she painted 100 hearts on sidewalk snow in Beacon, NY. These site specific works are ephemeral. Ice and snow melt away, leaving only the photographs behind. West's photographs have been exhibited in New York City and Beacon, NY.

eExhibits are part of the Howland Library's Community Art Programs. Each month, the library features the work of a Hudson Valley photographer on its electronic bulletin board. The eExhibit slideshows can be viewed on continuous loop on Second Saturdays. Local photographers interested in this unique exhibition opportunity are encouraged to contact the Exhibitions Coordinator at [email protected]

Want to Lose Those Extra Holiday Pounds?

Thanks to all who supported Food for Fines this year. HPL collected boxes and boxes of food for distribution by St. Andrew's Episcopal Church through I Am Beacon, and recouped numerous overdue items that are now back in circulation for your borrowing pleasure. Plus, many people reduced or erased their fines so
they can use their HPL cards again. It's a win-win-win situation.

Wishing everyone a healthy, happy 2015!
Fanny Keaton, HPL Director
