Barbara Masterson Artist Reception December 13th
HPL is pleased to present an exhibition of oil stick paintings by artist Barbara Masterson. "Seasons" will be on view in the Community Art Exhibition Space from December 4th through January 18th. As part of Beacon's Second Saturday, an artist reception will he held on Saturday, December 13th from 5-7 pm.
Barbara Masterson is a contemporary plein-air artist whose passions for life and art are seen in her colorful canvases. She is inspired by the dramatic lighting of the landscape and the peaceful mountain farm where she lives. Painting on location heightens the emotional charge and the sensual depth in Barbara's work. In recent years, Barbara has challenged herself by using Oil Bars exclusively without the use of a brush. Oil Bars are large chunky sticks of oil paint. Masterson uses only the bars, her fingers and pieces of wood to scrape the pigment. These paintings are more textural. Barbara intensifies the mood of her work and challenges the viewers to look at colors perceived versus what is seen.
Masterson began her study of fine art at Elizabeth Seton College. She went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Art Education and an Masters in painting from SUNY New Paltz. She has participated in juried, solo and group shows throughout the United States and has won several awards. Her paintings are in private and corporate collections in the United States, Italy, Germany and Guam.
The Community Art Exhibition Space is open during regular library hours. Please note the gallery may not be accessible during some library programs. Please consult the library calendar at beaconlibrary.org.
Also on December 13th, photographer Mary Ann Glass's "My iPhone Journal" will be on display on the HPL electronic bulletin board.
