Who Will Be Beacon's Next Poet Laureate?

The Howland Public Library is proud to announce a call for submissions for the position of Beacon Poet Laureate. The applicants for this two-year term (Jan. 1, 2015-Dec. 31, 2016) position must reside in the Beacon City School District. 

The Beacon Poet Laureate position has been formally recognized and approved by Mayor Randy Casale and the Beacon City Council. The responsibilities of the Beacon Poet Laureate include presenting poetry readings at select government and community-wide events.

Applications, and an Overview and Summary of Expected Responsibilities, are available hereon the HPL website, or may be picked up at the Howland Public Library. Deadline to receive complete application packages is September 12, 2014. Announcement of the selected poet will be held November 6, 2014.

HPL NOW OFFERS STREAMING MUSIC 

 

HPL now offers the ability to stream entire music  albums as part of its free online music offering.  Freegal 4.0 provides HPL cardholders with access to more than 6 million songs from 28,000 recording labels that originate in over 80 countries, including the complete local catalog of Sony Music Entertainment. Also, Freegal Music Service has over 15,000 popular music videos for download as MP4 files.

 

HPL card holders still can download (and keep) three MP3 Freegal Music tracks each week, and stream music three hours each day with no ads and at no costGo to the HPL website and click on the Freegal logo.

 

Freegal Music Service has free mobile apps for HPL cardholders. Freegal Music apps are available in the Apple® App Store and Google Play®.

 

HPL is one of 3,500 libraries from all over the world that subscribe to the Freegal® Music Service. The library was able to purchase this Freegal 4.0 subscription with the help of supporters of Beacon Reads Bookstore at 309 Main Street.  Beacon Reads is co-managed by Vicki Blucher and Marcia Frahman for the Friends of the Howland Public Library.  Special thanks to Friends of HPL treasurer Marion Imperatore.
